HIM - Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice, Chapters 1-13 |
Favorite Song - "Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly"
This is my most favorite song ever, ever, ever on my most favorite CD ever, ever, ever. I can’t sit still when I listen to it.
What can you write about your favorite song? How do you pinpoint what makes it your favorite? All I know is I love everything about it. Guitar line - great riff. Bass line - full-on kick. Drum line - in your face. Keyboard line - AMAZING. Vocal line - Wow! Ville nails it. End of story.
I just discovered this band on December 30, 2008, and they immediately became my favorite. (Yes, I was living under a rock! But I clearly remember the moment when I found them!) So many bands sound similar. HIM, to me, is unique. No one else quite has their vision.
Ville is a genius. All of his songs tell such brilliant stories. And they’re so visual. Full-on picture book visual. “Under the Rose”? Stunning. “Killing Loneliness”? Amazing. As a writer, I’m blown away by his command of the English language. Seriously. So few people can take a bunch of words found in the most boring book in the world -- aka the Dictionary -- and string them together to be so beautiful and meaningful. What a gift. Genius.

Favorite Song - “Scared to Death”
Sigh... Ville did it again. How can someone continually kick out amazing song after amazing song for so many years? Did I mention he's a genius? "Scared to Death" is so beautiful! Sigh... And I ADORE "Love, the Hardest Way." "Shatter Me With Hope" -- the title says it all. Rock.
HIM never has any stinkers on their CDs. Every song rocks! I love them... And time goes by so fast when you're listening to them.
By the way, the accoustic version of the Screamworks CD is super-duper, too. Yea. |

HIM - Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights |
|
Favorite Song - “Heartache Every Moment”
OMG, I love this song. I could just listen to it over and over. (Ok, I usually do.)
The first time you hear this CD, you like it. The second time, you love it. The third time, you're hooked and can't turn it off. (But, why would you want to? Other than to listen to another HIM CD?)
"Pretending" is amazing. Ville sounds so beautiful on "Close to the Flame." Instead of reading a book, read the lyrics to a HIM CD. Brilliant.
|
Favorite Song - “Right Here in My Arms”
You HAVE to sing along with this song. It just makes you rock.
These boys are so talented. Every song kicks. “One Last Time” leaves me speechless. (And that’s hard to accomplish!) Plus, the CD matches my nail color so nicely! Gotta love it.

|
HIM - all the rest of their CDs |
Jet Black Stare - In This Life |
Favorite Song - “Bleed Well”
The music totally kicks, but Ville's vocal is so sweet. I love it.
I'm only grouping the rest of HIM's CDs together cuz otherwise this would be the HIM page. For me, no other band compares.
|
Favorite Song - "Every Moment"
“I wish I would have told you, I just want to hold you tonight.” Isn’t that beautiful?
Every cut on this CD is a single. |
|
Sixx:A.M. - The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack |
Hinder - Take it to the Limit |
Favorite Song - "Tomorrow"
Every iota of this song is amazing. Each time I listen to it, I hear something new. Stunning.
As I'm sure you know, this CD is unique. A must for every collection.

Favorite Song - “Loaded and Alone”
No! Wait! It’s “Heaven Sent.” No! “Lost in the Sun!” Wait!...
I guess I’ll stick with “Loaded.” Austin kicks this song. (Well... he kicks all of the songs.) But this one really rocks.
This CD is fun! And, to me, it’s produced so “cleanly.” No miscellaneous fill without reason. Nice.
By the way, “Lost in the Sun” reminds me of 4-H Drama Camp. Ha!

Papa Roach - The Paramour Sessions & Metamorphosis |
Motley Crue - Saints of Los Angeles & Greatest Hits |
Favorite Songs - “Forever” & “Had Enough”
“Forever” way rocks. It’s one of those songs that everyone knows, but not everyone knows it’s Papa Roach.
"Had Enough" is extraordinary. Great message without being preachy.
Papa Roach is really coming into their own. (What happened to Jerry? He used to be so dorky, and now he’s sexy!) And musically, they’re RIGHT on.
By the way, I’m allowed to mess up the words to ALL of the songs on Metamorphosis cuz the lyrics aren’t included with the CD! So there.
|
Favorite Songs - “Down at the Whisky” & “Bitter Pill”
“Whisky” is one of those must-sing-along songs. So hot. I almost picked “Chicks = Trouble” as my favorite song cuz that one’s way hot, too. (I thought this should have been their second single. Doesn’t it sound like a second single?)
I love “Bitter Pill”! But why isn’t “Too Young to Fall in Love” on the CD?
Crue songs have such great bass lines. How can you not jam?
|
Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight |
|
Favorite Song - "Given Up"
Straight-forward rock song. Awesome. End of story. It always makes me feel better when I’m crabby.
This CD covers every mood. So cool. And Linkin Park has the BEST liner notes of ANY band.
By the way, I don’t mind mentioning that my car thinks I sing “Leave Out All the Rest” really well. And I value her opinion!
|
Favorite Songs - “Strutter" & "Makin' Love”
“Strutter” is my Guitar Hero song! I’m not great, but I don’t overly stink either. Only I have to sing as I play. I channel my inner Paul Stanley to the best of my ability. “Makin’ Love” way rocks, especially on the live CD. Wow!
KISS is a classic. Everyone knows these songs. Although the band isn't the same without Ace. Gene and Paul may be the driving force, but Ace provides the magic.

3 Doors Down - 3 Doors Down |
Shinedown - The Sound of Madness |
Favorite Song - "It's Not My Time"
Doesn’t everyone sing along with this song? I just love it.
Brad has such a cool, mellow voice. I think this is one of those CDs that’s going to rock 50 years from now. |
Favorite Song - “Second Chance”
The “mother-father” thing is a bit much, but I think this arrangement is stellar.
“Devour” rocks. Until I saw the song title, I thought Brent was singing, “To Power.” Ha! I never know what the hell anyone is singing. (Please check out my “I Thought the Lyrics Were...” webpage.)
But that doesn’t stop me from singing along! I just forge right on ahead...

Three Days Grace - Life Starts Now |
Daughtry - Daughtry |
Favorite Song - “Lost in You”
This song is so beautiful! Sigh...
I think Adam is one of the best singers out there. Dude knows how to sell a song. Rock.
|
Favorite Song - “What About Now”
Amazing tune. Rock.
This whole album is fantastic. And the production is stellar. |
